This session equips your leaders with the knowledge and confidence to have effective and supportive conversations. It helps break the stigma of talking about mental health while empowering people through coaching and live case studies to make changes to improve mental health.

We provide an overview of how to recognise when a team member may be struggling, a clear framework for having effective conversations to support mental health and guidance on what to do if you feel like you “got it wrong”. The session ends with discussion of what small, evidence-based changes leaders can make to prioritise mental health within their team.

Your people will learn:

  • Feel confident to support others
  • Know what to say and, importantly, what not to say when supporting someone with a mental health challenge
  • Understand how to create a safe space for sharing and how and when to ensure confidentiality
  • Learn how to:
    • Consider other perspectives through listening
    • Ask better questions
    • Respond to show they understand
    • Empower next steps
  • Be clear on the steps for signposting support, know how to encourage people to makes changes to improve their mental health, know the boundaries of their role and how to ‘recover’ after emotive conversations
  • Appreciate how to create a healthy balance of job intensity by addressing job demands, emotional demands and time demands
  • Have practised ways to support others through commonly faced scenario based case studies and sharing in the group
